Christmas is a strange season. It can make us self-absorbed or self-sacrificing. It’s an amazing paradox, our capacity for both. If we’re not careful, it is easy for the selfishness to dominate us. But if we pause and ponder, we can find again the essence of what Christmas is all about. Advent gives us that opportunity.
